Allergy Awareness: Everyone Has a Part to Play
Allergies can affect people in different ways and for some, an allergic reaction can be serious or life-threatening.
As part of our commitment to keeping our school safe and inclusive, we are raising awareness of allergies and the simple things we can all do to help reduce the risk.
Our Allergy Management Policy recognises that it is not possible to guarantee an allergen-free environment. Instead, we take an allergy-aware approach, with everyone playing a part in creating a safer environment for students, staff and visitors.
There are some simple things we can all do to help. Regular handwashing, particularly after eating, can help reduce the spread of allergens. We also ask students and staff not to share food or drinks and to be mindful when bringing food from home. Where food is provided, allergen information should always be checked and anyone who is unsure should speak to a member of staff.
Across our school, arrangements are in place to identify and support students with allergies. This includes individual healthcare plans where required, staff allergy awareness training, allergen controls and emergency arrangements. Our catering operations also provide allergen information and take steps to prevent cross-contamination wherever possible.
Being allergy-aware is something we can all contribute to.
By understanding the risks, taking allergies seriously and making simple changes to how we behave, we can help create a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.
