Inclusion
Inclusion
At Rayner Stephens High School, we strongly believe that every child deserves to be given the opportunity to make outstanding progress, regardless of their background or needs. We believe it is our duty to remove any barriers to learning so every child can succeed.
The Inclusion team recognises that some learners may need additional support in order to fulfil their potential. This support may be needed for a variety of reasons and provision may be long term or for a short period of time. Rayner Stephens High School is a Centre of Excellence for Inclusion
Rayner Stephens High School is proud to retain its prestigious Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) Flagship Status, a recognition of our unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment for all students.
During the IQM review, the assessor highlighted several key areas of success:
- Supporting SEND Students: The school has created an environment where students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), receive priority support within The Hive. This is part of the school’s broader effort to ensure that students feel supported at all times.
- “The Hive is a dedicated space within the school designed to support all young people, particularly those with additional needs. The Hive is managed by a dedicated Hive Manager and supported by higher-level teaching assistants.”
- Excellence for Learning Policy: A positive approach to student behaviour, focused on nurturing good attitudes through praise. The school now has Excellence for Learning Boards in classrooms to publicly recognise students' achievements.
- Family Dining Initiative: A unique programme that promotes social interaction and cooperation during lunchtimes, improving student behaviour and fostering a sense of community.
Rayner Stephens High School’s IQM Flagship Status is a testament to its dedication to inclusion. By continuously evaluating and improving their strategies, the school ensures that every student, regardless of background or need, is provided with the support necessary to succeed both academically and personally.
Young Carers
At Rayner Stephens High School, we facilitate respite and support for students with a caring role.
What is a Young Carer?
We recognise young carers as children and young people under the age of 18, who provide care to another family member.
Within our support for young carers we consider what tasks they are doing, as well as the impact upon their emotional, physical and social wellbeing. We are aware that the demands of this caring role can sometimes affect a student’s progress.
We Offer
- Half termly meetings and regular checkins
- A chance to get to know other young carers in similar situations
- Yearly trips
- Links to other organisations in and around Tameside.
- Someone to always listen.
